Blog layout changed - New Stuff is at the TOP

Hi all

Please leave a message to show your support. thanks Col x

Saturday 21st February

What a month this has been, so much has happened, unfortunately not all good, that I want to record it and share it with you, but as I said last month, it is rather disheartening when I look at the webpage and see few messages, except from Dennis’s lovely cousin Carol, who not only adds interesting messages that Dennis enjoys listening to – a bit of normality means a lot to someone who is loosing touch with life outside a hospital ward, but also sends us moral boosting cards, so come on all of you out there, if you read the blog, PLEASE leave a message!

Writing this blog takes a lot of my time, especially when I get in at night, weary from a day at the hospital. So I’m sorry to say, the update will come, but I have some important letters to write, which cannot be put off as some will delay progression on our efforts to move forward with the adaptations to our house to enable Dennis to return home.

So please ‘share the love’ ‘show us your support’ (it is hard sometimes keeping up my moral) ‘leave your messages’ and ‘watch this space!’

Love to all xxxxx

Good morning Dennis, Hazel and everyone. Got back early this morning from a trip to Egypt and Israel, hope you got the post card. Cant believe how bad camel breath is, maybe that's how our wives smell us after a night on the pop!. They are ugly sods too, so maybe thats where we differ, well, you and I anyway!!!I'll try and get a letter off to you in the next few days, so, as always, keep smiling, and keep your pecker up, whatever that means!

Hello both

Dennis - hope you are feeling a bit brighter. Spring is coming - so the weather man says! Something to look forward to if Hazel can get you out of that place again - even for a short while.

Not much changing in my world at the moment. Frantic at work - end of the financial year is always a killer in the world of finance. Haven't heard from Joe in a while - he has no internet, no longer has his mobile and I don't have his address so don't know when I'll make contact. (alice has address but keeps forgetting to give it to me.) Alice is lookin for a lat to buy - at least she's staying in this country!!

Hazel - love to you - stay strong. Speak soon.

Dennis love and kisses to you. Hope to be up to see you soon.

Love Cousin Carol xx

Hi to the Porter clan,
Between the fires in Victoria (still burning), the floods in Queensland and the third shark attack in as many weeks England is sounding more and more like the place I want to be! Tara now at University (can't believe it!) She loved seeing you all and will probably be back in the next couple of years for a quick visit. Thinking of you all, especially you big brother!

Hi Dennis,

I am still thinking of you a lot, when I do get into Wimbledon these days (mainly sitting at Croydon) I am inundated with inquires about how you are doing, and the retiring room is full of conversation about you with every one wishing you well.

I said to Hazel "would like to come and see you", as you know I am a better conservationist than letter writer.

Terry.

Hi Dennis,
got to try again as my last message went into cyberspace! Glad to read that you are improving, got a good backup team with your family!
If you need a visit from another face, get the family to let me know. Off to Goa again at the end of the month for another top up of the tan! About time we had some help behind the bar again for the socials also.

Keep the recovery going.

Best wishes,

Rod

Hi Dennis & family,

Getting colder over here, at last! I love looking at the photos on the blog, forgotten how handsome you are! Freaky that we look so alike though! Will send some photos over to prove it! Keep thinking positive and retain that great sense of humour, humour can get you through a lot.

Love to all of you

Jenny (your little - not so little these days!)

Hi Dennis, It has been snowing off and on all day. Thankfully it didn't settle this time. We were snowed in for 4 days last time.Great at first then a bit boring. There is only so much Suduko you can do! Frank out delivering chickens from 5am this morning and back out tommorrow at 2.30am delivering more!! Mum thinks she may have broken her toe (stubbed it on the end of bed!!) Rosemary and Fred have been staying for a few days. It was lovely to see them.I do hope you are keeping positive. Please remember I think about you every day and pray really hard that your rehab progresses well. Love you lots Mose XXX

Hi dennis

How's it going? Does Jenny really think she looks like you? Would love to see the photos showing she does!

No word from Joe so all must be well. Alice has a job interview coming up this week so fingers crossed.

Spoke to Paul this morning. He's sounding a bit more upbeat, but thinks he may be in hospital for another 2 weeks. We are going up there next weekend to see him. He asked after you.

Love to you and Hazel. Thinking of you loads. Cousin Carol xx

Hi Denise,

Glad to hear that you are steadily making progress.

Krishna and I have been thinking about you often and are always praying for you even though we don't always leave a message here.

Hazel, Colin and Helen are doing a great job amd we wish the whole family all the best. I admire their courage and commitment.

We are sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel so please hang in there.

My mother is expected back from Australia after visiting her sister who is going through Chemotheraphy. My Aunt has also got breast cancer. It is strange how life throws different things at us.. God tests all of us in different ways..

Shall close now...You are in our prayers...

Love to all of you,

Hi Dennis....I haven't forgotten yoyr letter, really! Well, today is Red Nose day, so why should i think of you especially. Quite simply because I know how much you enjoy a laugh and this year might not be so easy to have one. I remember a few years ago a well known local solicitor (known for his sense of fun etc) turned up in court with his red nose on. After we finally managed to revive the clerk, he took it off, but the stage had been set. All good stuff. So, with a little glass of something in my hand, and a natural red nose, I toast your continued recovery.
Keep smiling.....Nigel H

Hi Dennis, I not sure what has happened, but I typed a long message and it does not seem to have registered, so here I go again.(Apologies if you get two!!) They had a wonderful Red Nose day at Lisas pre-school. They set off 180 helium filled balloons all tagged with the names of who had bought them. (40 managed to escape into the blue yonder even though Lisa thought they were securely netted) Lisa had some calls today to say that 2 had landed in Winchester and 1 in Shaftsbury(That one was Olivias!) I took
Mum to the pre-school and we had lovely Devon cream teas. (I made 50 scones!!) Frank and I have been clearing the chicken area today and I managed to get my greenhouse clear for this years tomatoes etc.It was such a lovely day, we felt we had better take advantage of it. I really miss my chickens, but they had to go as we were finding it harder to get people to stay when we go away,I am finding difficult to look after them with my painful joints and also.....the RATS!!! Bloody loads of them! We are gradually getting rid of them. They have gone to the farm where we got Patsy from. They are lovely people and only have chix for their eggs. They don't eat the chickens!! Love you lots MoseXX
Hazel, Thank you for keeping me upto date on Dennis's progress. I know you must be absolutely exhausted at end of each day. I know Dennis may not think it in his stuation, but he is a very lucky guy to have you. Your devotion, dedication and caring all day and every day is amazing. Thank you for looking after my brother so well. Love you lots XXX

Hi Dennis - you too Hazel

Just got back rom Paul's. He came out of Hospital Thursday. He's improved just over the weekend we've been there, but is still sore and has a weeping wound still. He's glad to be home and able to get a good night's sleep.

Alice got the job she went for last week - she starts on 15th April so is going to Thailand today (to suprise Joe) - until 14th to make the most of her last days of freedom!!! Let's hope her flights not delayed as it was in November.

Hope all is going OK with you. Love to you both - Cousin Carol xx

hi - trying again to leave a note for you dennis. i think if we make it too long it doesn't accept it as i have sent seven and only two have appeared. i will try to be more succinct! you all remain in our thoughts and prayers and we are so grateful to colin and hazel for the blog updates on your progress. all is reasonably well here. roger's aunt has been living with us for four months whilst her sister is in rehab relearning how to walk. she is making good progress and even played beachball with our son james today in the ward gym. helen and catherine caught up too which is great. look forward to reading of your continued progress! lindsey martin

Hello Dennis, well mate it would seem that I have got a pass to visit you, the jailer have signed the warrant so you can expect me to visit your cell shortly, I’m told that visitors are not allowed to carry anything to you as it will be confiscated by the security services during the strip search.
Look forward to seeing you on the 7th April don’t bother to get dressed up, you always look better scruffy.
All the best

Hello Dennis

Just checking in. Not much happening here at the moment - just the usual mundane food shopping and Saturday chores. A pile of ironing awaits but don't fancy it right now!

Love to you and Hazel.

Hi Dennis

Thinking about you. Just been up Coopers Hill - where we used to go blackberrying for Mum to make the jam for the year. Changed quite a bit. Then realised it was probably 35-40 years ago!!

Went into the Air Force memorial and down the hill to where the Magna Carta was signed. These weren't changed - history stays the same.

Ironing still on hold. Love to you and Hazel. Cousin Carol xx

Good evening my friend,
Well what to say..... How about good news! It has been a year now and Monica and I have moved into a wonderful house. It has a view of Mount Hood, remember that road we took to Timberline Lodge, the one with the cliff on one side and side of the mountain on the other? Or maybe my driving that hudge 28 foot ( I don't know the conversion in meters for you) RV. The road was made for a modle A I think. Oh where was I... yes, we have a great view of the sun rising over it. Not only that but plenty of room for you and your family's next visit.
I am still reporting on you at lodge and the brothers are very interested in your recovery. You are well thought of in Oregon. Ok maybe they don't know you that well. But I think I do! and I look forward to seeing you again. Just let me know when you want company from someone who talks strange!

We are sharing a car at the moment as Frank backed his into a trailer and dented a back wing and light!! This is the 2nd time its been in for repair in a month!! Last time he took it out in the snow.He was coming home,in from the top road, put his brakes on to pull into our drive and went sailing past our house and the house across the road and ended up in a ditch at the entrance to the farm!!! I did advise him not to go out in it......but he knew best!! Bless him. Love you lots and will up to see you soon. Tuns of love Mose XXX

Hi Dennis

Hope all is going OK. Nothing new here really - work extremely manic as it's the end of the financial year and I've got to close accounts by 31st March. That's the easy bit - it's making them balance thats hard. Only one more week and I'm off for Easter holidays. I need the rest!

Morning! Dennis I could really do with your help and expert advice. We recently had some electrical work done at our village hall. The electician gave us a verbal quote of "about £1000" When the invoice came in it was for £2980 nearly 3 times the quote! He did not inform us at all that the amount would far exceed his quotation. It was discussed with him and he agreed to revise his invoice but that was still £2500. As a committee everyone is very unhappy with this invoice to. I have written to him asking him to revise it again and pointed out some days he left us without electricity without prior warning, which is totally unacceptable in a public facility and he fitted an electric coin meter which is totally unsuitable for our needs without discussing it.Any advice you have would be appreciated. Sorry to bug you with this, but I know this sort of dispute is right up your street and you may be able to help us.Frank is at the top of the garden setting up an area for a new petrol tank. As we buy our oil for heating wholesale, we have decide to buy our diesel for cars from the same provider. Takes a bit of setting up as obviously the tank has to be higher than the car petrol tank, and it has to be set on very stable base. He is busy mixing up concrete for blocks and slabs!! Weather is a bit iffy at moment, even lit the log fire last night! I really miss you not being on the end of the phone to talk to and bend your ear with these problems. Soon though, once the traccy is out. We wont be able to stop you talking!! Love you lots. Mose XXX Frank says hello and will be in with me to see you soon XX

Hi Dennis, Forgot to tell you in my last message, remember the balloons that Lisa set off for Red nose day? Guess whos balloon made it all the way to Belgium???..... mine!!! I think I am the winner. It made it there in two days!! I think it must have got tangled up on the wing of a plane!! The man who found it has sent back the tag so it was not a hoax call. Hope you are feeling stronger today. Love you lots. Mose XX

Hi Dennis

How's things! I finally got around to my ironing - so have clothes to wear now.

Been up to Windsor Great Park today. Can you believe they now charge £7.50 each to get into Savill Gardens - and you have to pay to park. It's incredible. I kept moaning about how it all used to be free and Paul just mutters something along the lines of ... but how many millions of years ago are you talking about...
We parked at Bishopsgate though and didn't pay to park and went in the Fox & Hounds afterwards for a drink.

Hope to be up to see you soon.

Lots of love to you, and Hazel
